Stove Top Popcorn

Stove-top popcorn is super easy, no fancy appliances or special pots required. Two simple ingredients are all it takes – canola oil and popcorn kernels – then add your favourite toppings or seasonings.

Prep Time

Servings

4

1/2 cup popcorn kernels (125 mL)

4 tsp canola oil (20 mL)

  1. In a large saucepan, heat 4 tsp canola oil over medium-high heat. Add 3 kernels, cover, and wait for them to all pop so you know the oil is hot enough.
  2. Add ½ cup popcorn kernels. Place lid on and let kernels cook, shaking occasionally to prevent burning.
  3. Allow steam to escape while popping by slightly offsetting the lid, and when the popping slows to 3 to 5 seconds between pops, remove pan from burner.
